The company Lohmann Kunststoff GmbH with its headquarters in Sinntal-Sterbfritz, Germany is a manufacturer of customized technical parts made of thermoplastic materials. In addition, the range of service includes the assembly of components and the overmoulding of punched parts. Due to their production of injection-moulded parts with mainly complex free-form geometries (e.g. brackets for ultrasonic sensors and cameras for automotive exterior) the company Lohmann Kunststoff GmbH decided to invest in the optical 3D measuring system FLEX-3A/M. The measuring device was equipped with vibration insulation laboratory table, three measuring fields of 70x52 mm², 150x112 mm² and 230x172 mm², an additional third axis for the horizontal
rotation of the measuring part and Geomagic Control software for comprehensive 3D data evaluation. The advantage of the 3D digitizing is, according to a statement from managing director and holder Klaus Lohman, especially the rapid and full -field analysis of first articles within the mould project management and eventually for the later re-qualification of serial parts. Global deformations, shrinkage, sink marks, deviations in dimensions or form can be visualized easily by a 3D deviation analysis. Coloured deviation analyses are not only an easy tool for the communication with the client but also with the tool making department in the own company, the Hohmann Werkzeug GmbH.
