In all manufacturing companies test laborities are equipped with very different measurement systems. Often one can find coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) that work with touch probes and/or optical sensors. They are versatile systems and cover a wide range of applications. Nevertheless the limited availability of the technology to laborities, the spatial distance to manufacturing units or the high effort for programming and set-up constrain the utility for a prompt inspection in manufacturing environment.

Therefore OTTO Vision develops customer-specific measuring systems that are tailored-made to a well-defined range of products. The measuring system design depends on the range of products and the inspection demands. In an extreme case only one article has to be inspected that is manufactured over a longer period and where an inspection at frequent intervals is required. OTTO Vision is responsible from expert consultation, design and manufacturing of the systems up to the implementing of test jobs for all relevant parts.

Measuring station with rotating device and lifting unit

The measuring station combines arotating device with a linear axle (lifting unit). Standing test objects can be inspected all around in different height positions. The combination of a rotation with a linear movement is especially suitable for the inspection of narrow and long objects where a complete measuring in only one picture fails because of the low optical resolution.

The test objects are made of metal, plastic or glass and have a maximum size of 400mm height and 140mm  diameter. Typical inspection criteria are the overall height, thread dimensions, different diameters, axial misalignment and inclination. The station is manually feeded. Often the inspection process is done production-related and lasts a couple of seconds up to maximum 2 minutes depending on the required number of single measurements.

X/Y measuring table

Within the design of a measuring table test object and optics can move to each other. However in the standard version the movement is to be confined to two axes. The set up of the measuring table is especially suitable for large and laminar objects. The possibilty to combine transmitted and reflected light inspections with other measuring technologies (e.g. lasers) complex measuring tasks can be accomplished.

Test objects are mainly flat parts with dimensions of approx. 500 mm x 500 mm that have to be inspected regarding dimensional accuracy, completeness and contour accuracy. The systems contain CCD cameras with variable optical resolution, variable object field sizes in combination with transmitted and/or reflected light illumination. The test period lasts 1 -10 min depending on the particular application. The axis accuracy is +/- 0,02 mm.

Test site with turning station

Within the design of the test site object and optics are arranged fix to each other. Optionally the test object can be inspected while it is rotating. A typical application for the test site is the fast monitoring of simple test criteria. Preferably parts are measured inside one picture. In combination with a rotating device an "all around" inspection is possible.

Typical measuring objects are formed components, turned parts, stamped parts, injection-die-moulded parts, connectors or screws that have to be inspected regarding dimensional accuracy, completeness and defects. The systems contain CCD cameras with variable optical resolution, variable object field sizes in combination with a telecentric imaging. The test period lasts 0,1 -5 seconds. Depending on measuring field size and type of dimension the measuring accuracy is < 0,01 mm.
